Glow Worm Caves

Glow Worm Caves

Our purpose-built cave is complete with very realistic formations such as stalagmites and stalactites. It’s is accessible during a fully guided tour. During a tour, one of our highly qualified guides will lead you on a short walk through the rainforest. In our cave, you’ll be shown a brief documentary on the Glow Worms. After the film, your guide will lead you into the cave filled with thousands of shining Glow Worms. Here everyone gets a chance to see a Glow Worm up close. Our impressive cave is easy to access and doesn’t require any bending down or crawling through tight spaces.

Our cave was created to protect the local species of glow worms, Arachnocampa flava. Glow worms are actually fly larvae which glow in dark to attract and catch small insects. Glow worms are extremely useful in our Australian ecosystems. They help control insect populations. The goal of our cave and our glow worm tours is to make an experience which is accessible for families, while benefiting wild glow worm populations.

Visiting the Tamborine Mountain Glow Worm Caves and going on our cave tour gives visitors the opportunity to see glow worms during the daytime. Since people have been diverted to our cave instead of local glow worm colonies, glow worm numbers in the wild have begun increasing again.
